Ingredients for the pizza dough:
- 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon instant yeast
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 cup warm water
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
Ingredients for the pizza toppings:
- Tomato sauce or pizza sauce
- Shredded mozzarella cheese
- Your choice of toppings (e.g., pepperoni, sliced bell peppers, mushrooms, onions, olives, etc.)
- Fresh basil leaves (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions for the pizza dough:
1. In a large bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and instant yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until the yeast becomes foamy.
2. Add the flour, salt, and olive oil to the bowl. Mix with a spoon until a dough starts to form.
3. Transfer the dough onto a clean, lightly floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until you have a smooth and elastic dough.
4. Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover it with a clean kitchen towel. Let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours until it doubles in size.
Instructions for assembling and baking the pizza:
1. Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If you have a pizza stone, place it in the oven while preheating.
2. Punch down the risen dough and divide it into two equal parts for medium-sized pizzas or leave it as a whole for a large pizza.
3. Roll out the dough on a floured surface into your desired pizza shape (round, square, etc.) and thickness. If you like a thin crust, roll it out thinner; for a thicker crust, keep it slightly thicker.
4. Transfer the rolled-out dough onto a baking sheet or pizza peel lined with parchment paper.
5. Spread a thin layer of tomato or pizza sauce over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
6. Sprinkle a generous amount of shredded mozzarella cheese over the sauce.
7. Add your desired toppings evenly over the cheese. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
8. Carefully transfer the pizza (with the parchment paper) onto the preheated pizza stone or directly onto a baking sheet.
9. Bake in the preheated oven for about 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
10. Remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes.
11. If desired, garnish with fresh basil leaves before serving.
12. Slice and enjoy your homemade pizza!
