‘It’s a mortar shell; it’s an eighty. I mustn’t touch it. See, I’m holding it', said little girl Rita about shells in her home’s backyard. For her, ammunition replaced toys: she can recognise and discern them.

Her village of Zaitsevo was located in so-called Grey Zone, that was near the front line. There hundreds of other settlements were shelled by Ukrainian troops almost every day for eight years. Watch our video about children living in the Grey Zone.
