Hogwarts Legacy is an action role-playing video game developed by Avalanche Software and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment under the Portkey Games label. The game is set in the late 19th century of the Harry Potter universe, a century before the events chronicled in J.K. Rowling. The player controls a student enrolled at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry who learns to wield a series of magical skills and objects. With the help of classmates and teachers, the protagonist embarks on a journey to unearth an ancient secret that has long been hidden in the magical world.

Development of the game started in 2018, and the first screenshots of the game leaked onto the Internet in the same year. Upon its official announcement in 2020, the game attracted significant anticipation. Prior to its release, it attracted controversy due to Harry Potter creator J. K.
