Matka Mutton is a popular Indian dish where mutton is cooked in a clay pot called a matka, which is used to give the dish a unique flavor. Here is a recipe to make matka mutton at home:

Ingredients:

1 kg mutton, cut into small pieces
2 cups yogurt
2 onions, finely chopped
2 tomatoes, finely chopped
3-4 green chilies, finely chopped
2 teaspoons ginger paste
2 teaspoons garlic paste
2 teaspoons coriander powder
1 teaspoon cumin powder
1 teaspoon turmeric powder
1 teaspoon garam masala powder
1 teaspoon red chili powder
Salt to taste
2-3 tablespoons oil
1 clay pot or matka
Water, as needed
Instructions:

Soak the clay pot or matka in water for at least an hour before using it.

In a large bowl, mix the yogurt, ginger paste, garlic paste, coriander powder, cumin powder, turmeric powder, garam masala powder, red chili powder, and salt. Add the mutton pieces to the bowl and mix well to coat the meat with the spices. Cover and marinate in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, or overnight.

Heat the oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.

Add the tomatoes and green chilies to the pot and cook until the tomatoes are softened.

Add the marinated mutton to the pot and cook for 10-15 minutes until the meat is browned on all sides.

Transfer the mutton and the onion-tomato mixture to the soaked clay pot or matka. Add enough water to the pot to cover the meat completely.

Cover the pot with a lid and place it on a stove over low heat. Let the mutton cook in the pot for 2-3 hours, stirring occasionally and adding more water if needed.

Once the mutton is cooked through and tender, remove the pot from the heat and let it rest for 5-10 minutes.

Serve the matka mutton hot with rice or bread. Enjoy the unique flavor that the clay pot brings to the dish!
