Naturevore: FLORIDA FORAGING Walk #29 (Apr. 30): Blueberry, Dangleberry, Blackberry, Grape, & More!

Collin Gow, C.N.C. and his son August go on a berry forage in Florida. Together they identify and discuss not only berries, but many other wild, edible, and medicinal plants, lichens, and fungi and their biological actions, health benefits, nutritional properties, and ethnomedicinal uses. Special finds include: Black Highbush Blueberry (Vaccinium fuscatum), Dwarf Dangleberry (Gaylussacia nana), Shiny Blueberry (Vaccinium myrsinites), Darrow's Blueberry (Vaccinium darrowii), Sand Blackberry (Rubus cuneifolius), a new Grape species, Fragrant Eryngo (Eryngium aromaticum), and more! Habitats traversed include: hardwood swamp, freshwater marsh, cypress domes, pine flatwoods, and xeric oak hammock. Subjects such as botany, morphology, phenology, phytochemistry, ethnopharmacology, folk medicine, traditional medicine, natural medicine, and Native American (American Indian) medicine come up while on the hike.
