This discusses the book Ascent of James (which is likely pre-70 AD but revised by Rufinus in 380s) as excerpted by Mr. Missick from the Clementine Homolies / Recognitions. He is a responsible scholar, specializing in Aramaic studies and the history of the Aramaic-speaking church -- in particular the Assyrian Eastern Christian Church.

We learn from Ascents of James the reason for why Jesus' sacrifice did away with the reason for any more animal sacrifices. We also review Epiphanius' anti-Ebionite attacks in the Panarion (ca. 372-77 AD). In it, Epiphanius quotes the Hebrew Matthew -- he could read Hebrew -- where Jesus says we must stop sacrificing, and if we continue to do so, the wrath of God remains on us. The context is not provided, but in light of the Ascents of James, it was a post-resurrection command.

Mr. Missick, a scholar and Protestant theologian in his own right, maintains a blog, and in it is his article on the Ascents of James. This article is the preface to the book of Ascents available online from Amazon for $4 in the kindle edition.

Only Mr. Missick's version is what we can recommend as the most true to the Clementine Homolies excerpt he is using.
