On the 27th of Febuary this year, in the Hawkes Bay, i reported on the damage wrought by Cyclone Gabrielle for Counterspin Media.

Puketapu resident Glynnis showed the CSM team around her property as she recounts the moment her & her husband are told they have 3 minutes to get out.

Glynnis also talks about her husband finding a family of 5 walking the road waste deep in water after they had been trapped on their roof.

In this interview she shares her relief at having made it & gives thanks to the many volunteers who have continued to turn up and lend a helping hand in the clean up.

"We had about 40 to 50 people one day, and they came in here and they basically broke the back inside and got it cleared out with silt and then they started taking the jib off. So the house can dry."

She makes mention of one Michael from Eskdale who, despite losing everything, turned up and helped out and gives a shout out to Puketapu Hotel who have provided hot meals to those in need, delivering some distance.

This is what it's about, people helping people in their time of need.
