Khalil Gibran, whose name is also spelled Jibran, Jibran, Khalil, and Jubrn in Arabic, Khalil Jubrn was a Lebanese-American philosopher who also wrote novels, poems, and artwork. He was born in Bsharr, Lebanon, on January 6, 1883, and he passed away in New York City on April 10, 1931.

The Bible, Friedrich Nietzsche, and William Blake were influences on Gibran's literary and creative works, which have a strongly romantic outlook. Themes like love, death, nature, and a longing for one's birthplace are addressed throughout his writings in both languages. They are full of lyrical outpourings and demonstrate Gibran's profoundly religious and mystic character.

The main Arabic works by Gibran include: Aris al-Murj (1910; "The Nymphs of the Valley"), Damah wa Ibtismah (1914; "A Tear and a Smile"), Spirits Rebellious (1920); The Broken Wings (1922); Al-Awif (1923; "The Storms"), and The Procession (1923); all of which are poems. The Madman (1918), The Forerunner (1920), The Prophet (1923; movie 2014), Sand and Foam (1926), and Jesus, the Son of Man are some of his best works in English (1928).
