Barron Beshoar provides background information for the Ludlow Massacre (pt. 1 of 2)
Beshoar shows interviewers Berwind canyon, where there were two large mining camps until 1930. The Ludlow camp was created by evicted families from these and other nearby towns. He gives a description of Las Animas County and talks about his grandfather and father, as well as the founding of Trinidad and how towns were established along the railroad lines. He explains that the coal company controlled every aspect of the mostly immigrant miners' lives and promoted their cultural segregation. Eventually, miners got organized and union tactics from around 1913 are described. Beshoar mentions people and events from before and after the Ludlow Massacre and tells how he came to write his book about John Lawson, "Out of the Depths."
