Sony Announces Their Switch Killer?? Project Q Is Coming!

During the 2023 State of Play presentation, Sony took the wraps off their new handheld device. I hesitate to call it a console due to how it appears to work, but they dropped news of what may be a Nintendo Switch Killer, and they announced that Project Q was coming.

Project Q appears to be what would happen if a Sony Playstation 5 DualSense controller was merged with an 8" WiFi tablet. The left and right controls look to be directly lifted from the DualSense, which I am a fan of myself. The left side has a traditional D-Pad and analog stick, while the right side has the Square, Triangle, Circle, and Cross buttons, along with another analog stick. It looks to be quite wide, so I am not sure how this will feel in the hand.

It was stated that the 8" display was of HD resolution, so it is safe to assume it's 1080P. Framerate and technology was not discussed, so we don't know if it's OLED or another technology.

The interesting thing Sony said about Project Q is it works via PlayStation 5 Remote Play, so this is not a standalone console. What we do not know at this time is if it can still play remotely via the cloud if you are tethered to a cell phone or other WiFi network.

Pricing and release date were not announced at this time. Looking at it, I'd expect it to be $400-$500 myself, Sony tends to price their items high. What do you think this will be priced at? I think more than a Nintendo Switch OLED and less than a Steamdeck is a safe bet.

Did you think this was a cool announcement? Are you planning on buying one? Does the lack of any physical OR digital media worry you? Comment below and share your thoughts!
