ISIS In The Philippines? | The Siege of Marawi City 🇵🇭

Marawi City, located on the island of Mindanao, was thrust into terror when it became the epicenter of a tragic conflict between government forces and terrorist organisations. The siege, which began on May 23, 2017, involved groups such as Maute, Abu Sayyaf, and elements affiliated with the Islamic State (ISIS). The city witnessed intense urban warfare, leading to widespread destruction and displacement of hundreds of thousands of residents.

Now 6 years on I've gone to see the progress in recovery and see how people are dealing with the aftermath of the longest urban battle in filipino modern history.

We walk through the streets, meeting locals and hearing their stories of resilience, stress, horror and recovery. Along the way, we'll also delve into the rich culture and heritage of Marawi, showcasing its delicious cuisine, and warm hospitality.

We try to gain a deeper understanding of the impact of terrorism and the immense challenges faced by communities affected by such conflicts. We hope to shed light on the power of unity, resilience, and the human spirit's ability to overcome adversity.

We spoke to an Imam, local government, locals in permanent and temporary accommodation and even someone who is moving back into the rubble of ground zero. We discuss the challenges governments face overcoming these situations and hear the hopes of everyone for the future.
