"The Suspect" is a 1944 film noir directed by Robert Siodmak. The story follows Charles Laughton in the role of Philip Marshall, a mild-mannered London tobacconist married to a domineering wife named Cora (Rosalind Ivan). When Philip falls in love with a young waitress named Mary Gray (Ella Raines), he contemplates murdering his wife to be with her. However, when Cora dies unexpectedly, Philip becomes the prime suspect in her murder. As the investigation unfolds, Scotland Yard's Inspector Huxley (Henry Daniell) tries to uncover the truth and determine Philip's guilt or innocence.
