US Air Force bombers in tense mid-air standoff with Russian fighter jet close to border

Two US strategic bombers have been involved in a tense mid-air standoff over the Baltic with a Russian fighter jet.
The National Defence Control Centre - which is part of the Russian Defence Ministry - said the B-1B bombers were flying towards the Russian border.
According to the centre, Russian radar picked up the two planes over the Baltic Sea approaching Russia’s border.
A Su-27 fighter jet from the Baltic Fleet was scrambled into the air.
The NCUO said: “The crew of the Russian fighter classified the air targets as two US Air Force B-1B strategic bombers and occupied the established air watch zone.
"After the removal of foreign military aircraft from the state border of the Russian Federation, the Russian fighter returned to the home airfield."
