MARIO WORLD GAMEPLAY
Super Mario World (スーパーマリオワールド Sūpā Mario Wārudo?), originally called in Japan Super Mario Bros. 4 (スーパーマリオブラザーズ4 Sūpā Mario Burazāzu fō?),[7] is a platform video game developed by Nintendo Entertainment Analysis & Development and published by Nintendo in 1990 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). The story follows Mario's journey to save Princess Toadstool and Dinosaur Land from antagonist Bowser and his henchmen, the Koopalings. Gameplay is similar to previous games in the Super Mario series: players control Mario or his brother Luigi through a series of levels, the objective of which is to reach a giant gate at the end. Super Mario World introduces Yoshi, a dinosaur that can eat enemies, as well as gain abilities by eating Koopa Troopa husks.
Development of Super Mario World was led by director Takashi Tezuka and producer and series creator Shigeru Miyamoto. It is the first game in the Mario franchise developed specifically for the SNES, and was designed to take full advantage of the console's technical features. The development team was given more freedom, compared to the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) versions of the series. Yoshi was conceived from the first Super Mario Bros., but wasn't used until the release of Super Mario World due to NES limitations. The game's soundtrack was composed by Koji Kondo, who worked on similar but more varied melodies to set it apart from its predecessors.
Super Mario World is often considered one of the best games in the Mario series, and cited as one of the greatest video games ever made. It is the best-selling SNES game and one of the best-selling games of all time, with over twenty million units sold worldwide. Its success led to an animated television series of the same name and a prequel, Yoshi's Island, initially released in August 1995. It has been re-released on several occasions: it was part of the 1994 compilation Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World for the SNES; was re-released for the Game Boy Advance under the title Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2 in 2001, on the Virtual Console for the Wii, Wii U and New Nintendo 3DS consoles between 2006 and 2016, and in the Super NES Classic catalogue. Edition in 2017. As of 2019, the game has been available on Nintendo Switch through the Nintendo Switch Online service.
