Now, it appears that Coinbase could be the next potential target of the SEC, as CEO Brian Armstrong was one of the first to report on the staking crackdown. It is not only exchanges that are likely to be the focus of regulatory scrutiny. It is currently unknown whether proof-of-stake based currencies, such as Ethereum, will also be the focus of the SEC, and whether a securities classification for ETH is planned.
