BC NDP Hypocrites Building Steel Schools

Here in British Columbia, you can hardly throw a rock without hitting a tree, we have unlimited amounts of logs and lumber yet I was disheartened to see two schools in Kamloops being built from Steel beams.Show more

A year or so ago the BC government made a big public speech and PSA on how we should all build buildings using lumber and wood from BC bc its sustainable and less carbon-intensive, they even changed the building codes to allow taller buildings up to ten stories.

I am severely pissed that in Kamloops the BC NDP government has built two public single floor schools out of steel beams instead out of post and beam BC logs.

Try to comprehend how much extra energy and pollution it has to take for the steel to be mined from the ground, the amount of energy and manpower, and pollution just from mining the raw minerals from the ground. Then the minerals are heated into extreme heat using gas or coal and add in some acids and chemicals to separate the steel from the oar. then after that, the steel is taken to another factory where it is again heated to over 1000 degrees to be formed into metal beams. Consider this steel most likely comes from a far-off country, maybe even China, so think about the pollution from just shipping the steel to Canada, then from the ports to third party supplier, then to the job sites eventually.

Now consider if the schools were built from forest fire reclaimed wood right here just a few miles from Kamloops. Imagine how much less pollution and chemicals and manpower....and hey...how much less $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$, and for shits and giggles where the money would go- like local companies. How much LESS would the buildings cost?

hmmmmm, does it take a Ph.D. to understand how ignorant and irresponsible this is and how it negatively affects our environment?

Right now half of Alberta is on fire, climate change is decimating the natural world, and this ladies and gentlemen is why. complete ignorance and lack of accountability, no pride or forethought within government.

Capitalism is killing the world with a thousand cuts, capitalists lobbying government so in return they get juicy contracts to spend unlimited amounts of taxpayers $$$$$$$, unlimited lobbying is not democracy
