THE NECESSITY OF TEMPTATION

Have you ever wondered why the Holy Spirit compelled the apostle Paul to go to Rome? It was in Rome where he was put in prison and finally killed. What about Peter being thrown in jail and Stephen being stoned to death?
And, of course, the Temptations Jesus went through in the wilderness.
We have a lot of reasons to ask God why concerning the things in our life, but why is it necessary that we endure temptation?
There is a classic line in the scriptures concerning Jesus that I love, and it says that he suffered all the Temptations you and I suffered and did not sin. So with that thought in mind, temptation could be condensed into the word testings.
Do you know that in this modern technological age, they do not pre-test an airplane before the pilot flies it? The computer is so exact nowadays that everything is perfect, or so they say. Previously they had a test pilot that took all the chances with the new airplane. I hope they pay those folks a lot of money. I don't like the name" test pilot." The test is given to see if the airplane can fly without problems.
The tests and Temptations that the Lord allows to come your way show you a gauge or a chart of your progress in spiritual growth and strength.
Someone addicted to certain foods or drugs will stay away from them for a long time out of fear of falling back into the habit. At some point in their development of recovery, they can interact without failing in their resistance.
It's no wonder James gave us that irritating verse where he said, count it all joy when various trials come your way. I've told my audiences often that I tore that out of my Bible, but the page keeps growing back. Hopefully, they get the humor.
So the necessity for temptation has the value of examining our growth and strengthening our muscle of faith and obedience to the word of God.
It's when we understand this principle that we obey what the Scriptures give us. Whatever the temptation, "resist the devil, and he will flee from you."
