Hook: Mustad 3399, #4-#16
Thread: Danville 6/0, Black & White
Tip: Danville 4-Strand Rayon Floss, Yellow
Tail: Scarlet
Body: Peacock Herl
Hackle: Hen, Black
Wing: Slate

The Mascot is a old wet fly that is similar to the Bisset, another fly I did a video on, but with a nice scarlet tail. I chose to tie it because it is similar to the Bisset and a few other wet flies and because I am always interested in the history of these flies and when (and how) they came about. Since the Mascot is similar to the Bisset I can only assume they both were created around the same time and that one came before the other. Although this is not always the case, but often one pattern emerges and another comes along later as a "variant" that tries to improve on the fly. Hard to know which came first in this case but it is interesting all the same. Also I find them a joy to tie and fish. - - Enjoy
