Breath = Spirit

Is our physical breath somehow related to the realm of the spiritual? Might “YHWH” equate to Breath/Spirit? Might this reveal greater understandings regarding the name(s) of God?

We don't think about our breathing on a daily basis. However, breathing is the core essence of our lives. Without breath, there is not life.

While our modern society doesn't typically think daily about breathing, much less the possible deeper meanings of breathing, for thousands of years various people have come to believe our physical breath is somehow connected to our spirit, the fundamental essence of life.

In the Bible, the word for "breath" is the same as the word for "spirit" — ruwach in Hebrew, and pneuma in the Greek. The same original words are used in the scriptures for God's Holy Spirit. There is a definite connection between the Biblical concepts of "spirit" & "breath".

Also according to the Biblical perspective, there appears to be a sort of multifold paradox in humanity. We've all been created in the image of God possessing nearly unlimited power, yet we have not grown enough spiritually to handle such responsibility. Only when "humankind" becomes "Godkind" will we be capable of wielding such power in the true Spirit of Love. Simultaneously, our physical lives are incredibly vulnerable and fragile... only one breath away from death.

This video “Breathe” by Rob Bell touches upon some noteworthy points of consideration.
