Wednesday, May 17 - Montana Governor Greg Gianforte signed legislation to ban Chinese-owned TikTok from operating in the state to protect residents from alleged intelligence gathering by China, making it the first U.S. state to ban the popular short video app.

TikTok, which has over 150 million American users, has faced growing calls from U.S. lawmakers and state officials to ban the app nationwide over concerns about potential Chinese government influence over the platform.

Don’t buy into fake neo-nationalism. Yes, surveillance, authoritarianism, and tyranny is worse in China. Yes, foreign companies are often more predatory than those who have to follow U.S regulations, but this is an issue of free speech.

The principle of free speech is under attack. A fundamental, natural human right of free communication and free exchange of information is being infringed upon. It is irrelevant what the current quality of information being shared on Tiktok is. This outlaws an entire content sharing platform, which is a public utility.

Not the mention it is one of the most prevalent and dominant content sharing platforms and applications in the world. In addition to that, and potentially even more importantly, TikTok is the dominant content sharing app for young people and children, making it crucial for the direction of human psychology, behavior, and the collective consciousness.
Who controls the minds of the youth controls the future.

Montana has a gun ownership rate of 65.7%. The highest rate of gun owners of all 50 states. This is the real reason for the ban. In the case that tyrannical violations of human rights take place in this country, in the event that a wave of draconian violence and abuse invaded the American people, an app like TikTok would be the most effective way to quickly distribute information about what was occurring. TikTok has the feature set and characteristics to function as an early-warning system for the people. Moreso than other platforms like Twitter or YouTube and Facebook live, TikTok is the most powerful because of how difficult content moderation is there, not only because of the sheer massive quantity of creators, but also due to administration being outside of the Western ‘big-tech’ ideological umbrella.

To say it plainly, if armed rebellion was necessary, the youth would see it on TikTok. Recent history shows that young people are the ones who have courage, and willingness to sacrifice for freedom. This was the case in the Warsaw uprisings and underground movements against the Nazis during World War II.

These are the real reasons. Do not allow yourselves to be mentally isolated from your children.
