'Ukrainian Mother Cry' statue unveiled in Sofia

A statue called "The cry of the Ukrainian mother" was unveiled in front of the Soviet army monument in Sofia on Sunday.

The sculpture was made by the Bulgarian sculptor Nedelcho Kostadinov, symbolizing the pain of war in Ukraine. Dozens of people watched and clapped during the unveiling of the statue, some pro-Russian activists were also present, guarding the Soviet army monument.

The statue remained on the square for three hours and then it was removed due to fear of vandalism. Kostadinov's goal is to persuade Sofia authorities to erect a bigger copy in front of the Soviet army monument.
