THE SPIRIT OF JOHN THE BAPTIST

There was a man covered in camel hair who ate locust and wild honey. His name was John. He was in the wilderness, crying out, prepare ye the Way of the Lord. This lone preacher in the wilderness had a single message. The light of heaven was coming to take away the sins of the whole universe. He shouted this message out with urgency, then baptized them in water.
John's life was one of mystery and miracles. He was the cousin of Jesus and had a birth nearly as miraculous as Jesus had. His mother, Elizabeth, passed the age of childbearing, and according to scripture, it seems he was filled with the spirit in her womb when Mary showed up at her house and greeted her.
In the spiritual sense, John did not know who he was and did not know who Jesus was either. Even though Jesus said that he was Elijah come in the flesh. When John was asked by the Pharisees who he was, he denied being Elijah. And he confessed that he did not know who the son of God was before the Holy Spirit came upon Jesus in the form of the dove.
Yet, John, whom we call the baptizer, followed the spirit of God into his place in spiritual history that prepared the coming of God himself in the form of Jesus Christ to redeem man from sin.
Just think about this for a moment compared to what you may be going through in your journey. It's common for Christians like yourself to not know who they are or their purposes.
We brag about Abraham, leaving his home country not knowing where he was going, yet many times, we refuse to move until we know exactly what God's plan is for us. John, the Baptist didn't fall into that trap. He pressed forward and did what he knew to do: proclaim the message that the light of heaven was coming to earth.
We call this walking by faith, don't we? And we refer to Peter stepping out of the boat on the water as if on solid ground. The life of faith never changes, and we must always do what we know to do, and then God will reveal the rest.
