Beijing warns US of 'serious consequences' over 'Taiwan independence' actions - MOFA spox

Beijing warned the US of "serious consequences” due to actions it alleges are instigating pro-independence forces in Taiwan. The statement was made by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian in Beijing on Wednesday.

"The origin of the current situation of tension across the strait is that the Taiwan authorities use the United States to seek independence and some people in the United States use Taiwan to control China," said Lijian.

"Recently, the US has been making frequent moves on the Taiwan issue, saying one thing and doing another, and instigating for Taiwan independence forces, which will push Taiwan into a dangerous situation. The United States itself will face serious consequences,” he added.
