The largest bell in the world was in Russia made in 1733 and at the time of its casting a great religious ceremony was held, during which hundreds of nobles threw their silver and gold jewelry into the furnace.

The bell measures 22 feet 8 inches across the mouth, 19 feet 3 inches in height and its thickness al the base, where the clapper would strike, is 23 inches. Its estimated weight is from 400,000 to 410,000 pounds.

A nearly triangular piece of metal about 6 feet high and 7 feet across the base, weighing 11 tons, is broken out from the rim.
