“Assuring Genuine Faith” 
8th in our series the Epistle of 2nd Peter

I. The Seven Christian Virtues guarantee - 2 Peter 1:8
* A. If these seven are yours and you abound in them, two things:
* 1. You will not be spiritually barren - instead you will be engaged with the Spirit bringing about new birth
* 2. You will also not be fruitless regarding the fruits of the Spirit - Galatians 5:22-23
* B. The most important knowledge is that of the Lord Jesus Christ  
* 1. First it determines your eternal destiny - Matthew 7:21-23
* 2. Second, knowing Him is the essence of the Christian life - Philippians 3:10

II. What if Someone Professes Christ yet lacks these things? - 2 Peter 1:9
* A. Spiritually short sighted 
* 1. The world seeks to allure us by focus only on that which is in this world and right in front of us
* 2. We need the Biblical perspective, focused on things above - Colossians 3:1
* B. Perhaps even spiritually blind
* 1. Here spiritual vision is lost altogether indicating one who is not saved
* 2. Self examination is called for - 2 Corinthians 13:5
* a. Jesus warned that many who thought they were saved will be sent to hell - Matthew 7:22
* b. Only spiritual blindness could place someone in that position on Judgment Day
* C. And most certainly possessed with spiritual amnesia
* 1. Scripture throughout reiterates the command to remember - 1 Corinthians 11:24-26
* 2. When we forget the enormity of the sins our Lord has forgiven, we will fall into a multitude of other sins
