USCGC Glacier and the Weddell Sea, 1975

160619 Like and subscribe. This is an archive, check the link in the end if you are owner. The USS, later USCGC, Glacier served thirty two years in the Navy and Coast Guard. An event in 1975 serves to illustrate the risks and dangers faced by those who serve in the Earth's polar regions.

The film footage is from the first year of Operation Deep Freeze in 1955. At the time, Glacier mounted twin 5-inch and 3-inch guns. The heavy guns were removed between 1966 and 1968. Glacier is seen with at least three paint schemes in the episode. Film footage comes from here:
