This may be Bob's best song from this century! Originally written for the Time out of Mind album in 1997, this version with full band backing was finally released on the 2001 album Love and Theft.

This may be the most brutally honest and somber love song ever written. Dylan describes all the heartbreak and loss that occurred as a result of the simple mistake of staying in Mississippi "one day too long."

That line comes from an early folk song "Rosie" that was a prison gang work song sung in call and response fashion. The original recording from 1996 was later released on a bootleg album and is also available online.
