Victor Lafay (26) went down in the 13th stage of the Tour de France. The Frenchman of Cofidis, who in the run-up here and there was treated as a possible candidate for a stage win, said that this was actually no longer possible since the sixth stage.

In front of the Eurosport camera, Lafay said he could not keep up with the peloton and was alone at the end. The interviewer asked him if he was sick. "Yes, I am sick. I'm not the only one in the peloton. I talked to Castro (Jonathan Castroviejo, editor's note) at the start and he told me he wasn't feeling well either."

"He came to me and asked me, 'Are you sick? Do you also suffer from breathing problems? I have a lot of difficulty breathing. I feel like I'm not getting enough oxygen. I have pain everywhere, in my legs and so on. I have no strength and it gets worse with every stage," the rider said.

The interviewer asked if it could be covid. "All the Corona tests were negative. A lot of riders feel that way, but they all tested negative, too. I'm not a doctor, but many of us have the same complaints and struggle on the bike," Lafay said.
