The 10mm caliber has become a popular choice for defending against bear attacks because it has proven to be effective and offers advantages over high-power revolver cartridges, especially in terms of the number of rounds it can hold.

In a highly stressful situation (a bear attack definitely qualifies) having a semi-automatic 10mm handgun with a larger capacity of ammunition significantly increases the chances of stopping the bear.

The 10mm caliber strikes a good balance, fitting well into a semi-automatic handgun without making it excessively large or heavy. It still has enough power to stop an aggressive 800lb Grizzly bear if the shooter is able to aim accurately.

For many people, the 10mm caliber is considered the "Goldilocks" round (lol you get it??), as it is big and powerful enough to do the job of defending against bears, but not so big and powerful that it becomes difficult to shoot or limited to specific types of firearms like revolvers or low-capacity semi-automatics.

Two years ago, I made a video discussing whether the Glock 20 is the ideal bear gun. While the Glock 20 has many advantages, I personally struggled with shooting it accurately.

Fast forward two years, and FN has now introduced their new semi-automatic 10mm pistol called the FN 510 Tactical. The FN 510 not only offers a higher capacity but is also slimmer compared to the Glock 20, and I have found it to be much easier to shoot accurately.

So, the question remains: Is this the new perfect bear gun?
