Day 14: The Chosen Blended Gospels Our Roles in Society Discipleship and Apostleship Interchangeable

Workers for the Harvest - Matthew 9:35-11:1- Mark 6:6-13- Luke 9:1-6

In Matthew 9:35-38- Jesus is not condemning sinners, but instead referring to them as lost sheep needing to be found and brought home. COMPASSION, means "suffering with." THE SHEEP HAVING NO SHEPHERD is being drawn from the OT- (Numbers 27:17, 3Kg(1 Kings)22:17- Ezekiel 34:5), and is also an accusation against the Jewish religious leaders because instead of being good shepherds they were destructive wolves. THE HARVEST in vv. 37-38 is suggesting the abundance of those who are ready to accept the Kingdom of God. Our Lord is both the Sower and the LORD OF HARVEST. He is sending the disciples not to sow, but instead reap what He has sown by the prophets (John 4:36-38)- St. John Chrysostom teaches that those who sow and those who reap are the prophets of the OT and the apostles respectively. In preparation of the coming of the messiah, the prophets sowed, they did not see His coming so they did not reap. The apostles did no preparation work, but would draw thousands to Christ during their lifetimes.

Our roles in society is both Discipleship and Apostleship and these roles are interchangeable just like it was for the original Twelve.
