Melting And Casting Aluminum Second Attempt With Greensand

I pulled out the Vevor smelting furnace and melted some aluminum. I tried the sand casting I had made after letting it sit out in the sun for almost two weeks to dry.

Somehow the aluminum bubbled and boiled again when I poured it. Not as violent this time but it was enough to ruin the casting. There must have been some tiny bit of moisture in the sand even though it was hard as a rock from drying in the sun.

This makes me wonder and doubt all the videos I see on YT about "greensand" casting where they use damp or wet sand and clay for their molds. Mine is hard as a rock from drying yet just a tiny bit of moisture ruined the casting.

I will try again soon but with proper casting sand so stay tuned. I will succeed eventually.
