It Is primary season again.
I'm Peter Serefine with another Liberty Minute.
Tuesday was primary day in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, my home state. That really got me thinking about the entire primary process.
Primaries are how the two main political parties, private organizations, decide who they will put on the ballot for the actual election.
The direct primary election is unique to the United States.
The current system has only been around since the 1970s, and somehow, it has become taxpayer funded. The 2016 primary elections cost taxpayers over $427 million.
To make that idea even worse, not everyone is allowed to participate in the taxpayer funded selection process. 26 million registered voters can't vote in primaries because they are not registered to one of the two big parties and live in closed primary states.
What's the solution? Make the parties pay for their own primaries or go back to caucuses. The parties pay for the process in every caucus state.
If you believe in limited government and are fed up with the uni-party. Visit https://constitutionparty.com/ and break out of the two-party illusion.
