The Ancient Egyptian Great Canal
2
The Ancient Egyptian Great Canal, also known as the "Canal of the Pharaohs" or "Canal of Necho," was an impressive waterway built during the reign of Pharaoh Necho II (610-594 BCE). The canal ran from the Nile River to the Red Sea, and it served as a major trading route connecting the Mediterranean with the Indian Ocean. The canal was around 100 miles long and was used for transportation of goods such as grains, spices, and textiles. The construction of the Great Canal was a significant engineering feat, with thousands of laborers working for years with basic tools to dig the canal by hand. However, the canal fell into disrepair after repeated invasions and lack of maintenance, and today, only a few sections of the canal can still be seen.
