A brief history of MOTOROLA from 1930 to about 1997, originally produced for the “Motorola Museum of Electronics,” which opened in 1991, but unfortunately ceased operating years ago. Motorola is well known for radios, televisions, cellular phones and many other electronic devices. This is nevertheless a very nice historical look back at the early days of an iconic company as it was up to around 1997. It has a fascinating technology and corporate history since that time as well including success with a large number of cell phone products and communications technologies. Color, 12 minutes.
Interesting Corporate Changes:
On January 4, 2011, Motorola Inc. was split into two publicly traded companies; “Motorola Solutions and “Motorola Mobility.”
On August 15, 2011, American tech company Google announced that it would acquire “Motorola Mobility” one of the successor companies, for $12.5 billion. Three years later, on January 29, 2014, Google announced it would, sell Motorola Mobility to the Chinese technology company Lenovo. Lenovo announced in 2016 that it would not use the “Motorola” brand name on future products.
