Today we recognize Aashka Raval, a University of Cincinnati senior, who created a coalition for all AAPI students to feel at home. Raval came to UC as an international student from Western India in 2020. Raval says the amount of hateful rhetoric and actions targeting the AAPI community became unbearable -- Leading her and a group of other students to create United Asian Advocates. Within a year, the group put together a list of 60 demands to issue to the university -- including a physical safe space for AAPI students. And now Raval says all of their wants have come to fruition. She says, living in a certain part of the world, social justice and advocacy chooses you. So now Raval is using her platform to encourage everyone to support AAPI businesses and get educated on the history of the community.
