The Sri Lankan leopard (Panthera pardus kotiya) is a subspecies of leopard that is native to Sri Lanka, an island country in South Asia. It is the only recognized wild big cat species in Sri Lanka and is classified as endangered due to habitat loss, poaching, and human-leopard conflict.

Sri Lankan leopards are similar in appearance to other leopard subspecies, with a golden-yellow coat covered in black spots and rosettes. However, they have a slightly smaller body size compared to other leopard subspecies. They are also known for their agility and strength, able to climb trees and carry prey that is almost as heavy as their own body weight.

Due to habitat fragmentation and loss, the population of Sri Lankan leopards has decreased significantly over the years. However, conservation efforts have been made to protect and conserve the remaining population. Some of these efforts include the establishment of protected areas and the implementation of anti-poaching measures. Despite these efforts, the Sri Lankan leopard population continues to face threats from human activities, and further conservation efforts are needed to ensure their survival.
