Desmond Doss enlisted to fight in world war 2 out of Virginia. despite being offered a deferment, he chose to serve. as a conscientious objector due to his seventh-day adventist faith he was firmly against killing. Doss was given a role as a combat medic and had to earn the respect of his fellow soldiers who were very hard on him for refusing to carry a weapon. He would go on to earn 2 bronze stars with a V device in guam and the phillipines for exceptional valor in helping wounded soldiers under intense enemy fire. Moving on to the battle of Okinawa, where the americans had to climb a netted hill to engage enemy forces known as the meada escarpment or Hacksaw ridge. they were met with massive fire once on top of the hill. many americans were severely wounded, and in the midst of them. Desmond doss, lowering wounded americans down the hill. the whole time praying. save one more, save one more. he saved 75 american lives and was wounded 4 times. for his unwavering valor he was awarded the Medal of Honor.
