Gardening in Red Dirt | Road Trip to Cherokee Alabama

We live in North Mississippi where there's a lot of red dirt!
We are attempting to grow a garden in a space that has a lot of that ol' red dirt. While planting, I'm wondering if this garden is even going to produce anything!

We plan to work the soil the next couple of years to improve it but as for right now, we are going to move ahead with planting. We have "worked" it a little this year by putting sheep manure and mulched up leaves on it but it needs A LOT more work! We will get there eventually.
