Supreme Court sides with Alabama inmate who seeks to die by nitrogen gas

The Supreme Court made a ruling on Monday in favor of a death row inmate from Alabama whose scheduled execution by lethal injection was halted by the state. The inmate is seeking to be executed by nitrogen gas instead.

Alabama had requested the intervention of the high court, arguing that a lower court had disregarded Supreme Court precedent, which requires an inmate to demonstrate that an alternative method is not only “feasible” but also “readily implemented.”

However, the Supreme Court declined to intervene on Monday. Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito dissented from the decision, CNN reported.
