Bluebells are perennial herbs that flower from April onwards, mostly in woodlands, meadows, and glens. They have bell-shaped flowers with six petals and up-turned tips, usually deep violet-blue in colour and sweet-smelling. They belong to the lily family and are also known as wild hyacinth or spring bulbous flower. However, the name bluebell can also refer to other plants in the bellflower family, such as Campanula rotundifolia, which is the floral emblem of Sweden and Scotland ¹⁵.

Bluebell flowers range in color from white to gray to pale blue, lilac, and pink to a deep cobalt. In general, bluebell flowers are understood to symbolize gratitude, humility, everlasting love, and constancy
