In this episode, I would like to show you how we celebrate St. George in Bulgaria.

You are going to see footage from the Military Parade, the church liturgy at the St. George Rotunda, and the fest at the South Park in Sofia.

St. George’s Day is the Bulgarian Armed Forces Day made official by Prince Alexander Battenberg in 1880. During the Communist regime the holiday was cancelled but then in 1993 it was reinstated.

St. George's Day is also the day of the shepherds and the day of all those who carry the name George and Gergana. This is actually one of the most celebrated name days in Bulgaria.
