Flying the DJI FPV Drone on Padre Island Near the Destroyed Bob Hall Pier #djifpv

From what I've been able to find out, the Bob Hall Fishing Pier suffered damage in 2017 from Hurricane Harvey, but it was the 2020 Hurricane Hanna that doomed the pier structure, resulting in demolition back in 2022. Bids were approved to rebuild the pier, using concrete supports, rather than the original wooden structure. I found news articles claiming the cost was anywhere from $18 mil to $26 mil to rebuild it. All of the 2022 articles said it would be rebuilt by 2023, which obviously hasn't even begun to happen as of May 14, 2023.

Once the reconstruction begins, I'll try to make a few more visits over time to see how well the new structure is coming along. One news article claimed it would only take 130 days to complete it.

One note... Save yourself from paying a $500 fine by buying an annual beach permit prior to parking on the beach. The cost is only $12 a year and the permit sticker is available from almost any convenience store or tourist trap shop on the island. I bought mine from a Stripes Valero gas station after crossing the causeway onto Padre Island. The beach pass is good for everything from Padre Island, north to Port Aransas and even the public beaches at Rockport, Texas.

We flew the DJI FPV drone for this flight, reaching speeds of over 60mph as we skimmed the waves along the beach front. This was only in Sport mode, not manual mode which can reach almost to 99mph in speed. Audio was recorded live while we flew, using a Tascam digital audio recorder.
