5. Sloth was officially adopted by Chunk’s parents after the movie’s conclusion. The novelization reveals not only that, but they also had him bar mitzvahed. It doesn’t say whether or not he was circumcised. Speaking of Sloth...

4. His makeup took five hours to apply, and unfortunately it wasn’t waterproof. The kids were warned not to get it wet in the scene where they first see One-Eyed Willy’s ship, but of course in their excitement they did. In spite of having to endure another lengthy makeup session, gentle giant John Matuszak never said a word about it.

3. The paths of two famous friends crossed for the first time during the film’s casting. While sitting in the waiting room at Amblin before his audition, Corey Feldman first met Corey Haim...who was also there to read for Mouth.

2. An entire subplot about a pair of escaped zoo-gorillas was cut from the film. They got loose when The Goonies were banging on the plumbing underground; then they stole a golf cart and later Troy’s Mustang.

1. The Goonies originally fought a giant octopus. In another deleted scene, they were attacked by the beast as they waded towards Willy’s galleon. Sadly, the 32-foot puppet looked ridiculous, so the scene was cut. It lives on, however, on the blu-ray.
