The Dakota Fire Hole is an underground fire that is ideal for heat, stealth camping, and high winds.
👇
2 It is named after the Native American tribe of the Dakota, who used this style of fire to combat the local windy conditions and avoid the potential of starting grass fires.
👇
3 To make a Dakota Fire Hole, a hole is dug approximately 12-16” deep into the ground and a sloping tunnel is dug connecting the base of the pit to the surface.
👇
4 One hole should be made in a vertical orientation while the other should angle down to connect to the first hole’s base.
👇
When you make a fire in the vertical hole, air is drawn into the angled hole to feed the fire with oxygen.
👇
The Dakota Fire Hole is an efficient, clean burning, and easily concealable fire that requires very little fuel to produce superb results.
👇
It is perfect for stealth camping, survival, and outdoor cooking.
