‘THIS IS LIKE A D&D MOVIE!’ ⚔️🗡🐉

————————————

If you’ve never seen our show before📍 START HERE ! 📍You don’t especially have to know how to play D&D; we try and keep it very accessible. We might even help demystify the game for you!

We are playing The Dungeons & Dragons Starter Set - The Lost Mines of Phandelver.

————————————

D&D - HOW IT WORKS:

We all sit down and tell a story together, with each player describing the actions of their character within the game. The objective and obstacles that unfold in the story are relayed by the Dungeon Master, whose role is to shepherd the story along providing intrigue and adventure whilst bringing the collective ideas of the group to life. There are many ways to do this, including the use of dice but - as every rule book will tell you - the rules aren’t essential at all; the MOST IMPORTANT THING is to have fun telling a story together.

CRAGMAW CASTLE

Directed & Edited by Jack Richardson
Produced by Jack Richardson, Shannon Anthony & Rob Fuz

With thanks to Theresa Fuz for additional costumes and the goblin puppets, and to Mark Feltwell who helped with the theme tune.

A huge thank you to our Patreon supporters - you’re in the credits 😉

🚩A message from Jack (Dungeon Master):

We at Dungeon Gamers love Dungeons and Dragons. It has opened up a world of imagination, intrigue and adventure for us; bringing us closer together as friends and inviting us to a wonderful community of like-minded individuals who are compelled, as we are, to Storytelling.
Dungeon Gamers is our passion. We make it in our spare time, in our garage with our own money and resources. I have sat at this computer for most of the pandemic putting it together, with Shannon co-ordinating the green screen filming days and Rob (and his mum Theresa!) making and costuming puppets, prop hunting etc. We all have busy lives, but we all agree this is what we LOVE! If you watched this video and are reading this passage - thank you! PLEASE share this video. We all want nothing more than to continue making this series and we have big plans for where it can go to next, but to get there we need your HELP! PLEASE HELP SPREAD THE WORD.

We’re already hard at work on Season 4 - Wave Echo Cave - which will be out later this year, and are looking at starting the next campaign after that: Rime of the Frostmaiden.

So how do we make this show?

We all have full time jobs. There's no sponsor or money that looks after this besides our lovely Patreons (who get to see exclusive 'Behind the Scenes' content, btw). The 'studio' is Jack and Shannon's garage with old curtains, a table from an off-cut of plywood and the sign is polystyrene ('styrofoam' to our American friends) all stitched/sawn/painted into place for the gameplay. It is in this same space that we setup the green-screen to film the live-action segments and puppets. This footage is carefully choreographed and lit to match the animated backgrounds of the castle, which this time around have been made using Blender. At the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, I found an incredible tutorial for this free animation programme from Blender Guru -

https://youtube.com/blenderguruofficial

If you're interested, I highly recommend Andrew's tutorial on how to make a 3D donut. He is a fantastic teacher and incredibly knowledgable of this amazing FREE animating software.

I felt so confident after admiring my donut (steady...) that I decided to make a to-scale 3D model of Cragmaw Castle, using the D&D map provided in the starter set as a reference. I do not recommend doing this 😂 - I'm happy with the way it came out, but I now have a deep admiration for CGI artists! I love learning new filmmaking techniques, and there's always another incredible lesson available from some talented creator on YouTube, but truly, the next stage for Dungeon Gamers is always on the horizon.

"The door bursts open... what do you want to do?"
