The Disappearance of Brianna Maitland - A Mysterious Story

There were 87,500 active missing person cases in the US as of 2019, according to the FBI. Even while runaways and non-custodial parents are to blame in the vast majority of missing person instances involving juveniles, the fact that many of those cases remain unresolved is a sobering reminder. It may be agonizing for friends and family members of persons who disappear without a trace not to have any foreseeable closure. We can only hope that someday the real story behind each instance will be revealed.

In that regard, the disappearance of Brianna Maitland has perplexed officials for almost 20 years and is largely regarded as one of the more difficult cases for police. According to the Charley Project, 17-year-old Maitland has been missing since early 2004. Her case as a missing, endangered child has been challenging to investigate.

Brianna Maitland still has not been found. Today, she would be 36 years old. Police revealed in 2020 that they were collaborating with Houston-based firm Othram, which specializes in forensic testing and investigation. In a case that has vexed them for almost twenty years, they are hoping to find fresh clues.
