Kushner, a major Democratic campaign contributor and political player, was once nominated by Governor McGreevy to head the Authority's board. He was also charged with hiring a prostitute to blackmail two witnesses in a federal investigation where he was a target. He was sentenced to two years in prison, with a release date of August 25, 2006, although he was transferred to a halfway house in Newark.
