Chinese Ministry Removes Video Featuring Brownface Singing Indian Song
An online video post featuring people in brownface singing an Indian song has been taken down by a Chinese government ministry. The video, created by a popular influencer, was shared by an official account under the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) to promote road safety.
The video drew criticism outside of China due to its use of brownface, which is condemned as a racist caricature. The video featured men in brownface wearing turbans and women in what appeared to be south or central Asian costumes singing the Indian song Tunak Tunak Tun with Chinese lyrics about vehicle superiority.
How can countries address cultural insensitivity and racism to promote better understanding and respect among diverse communities?
