In a virtual news conference, Sport Minister Pascale St-Onge announces new measures aimed at improving accountability and fostering culture change in Canadian sports. Measures include creating a new compliance and accountability unit within Sport Canada to monitor national sports organizations (NSOs). All NSOs will also be required to adopt principles in the Canadian Sport Governance Code by April 2025 in order to maintain federal funding. Adam van Koeverden, the minister's parliamentary secretary, and David McGuinty, the MP for Ottawa South, also make remarks in Ottawa. The sports reforms come amid calls for a public inquiry into alleged abuse or misconduct in sport.
