The chief justice who died in the Tower and was known for his support of the tyranny of James II was Sir Robert Wright.

Sir Robert Wright was appointed as Chief Justice of the King's Bench in 1687 by King James II, who was known for his absolutist tendencies and his efforts to curtail the power of Parliament. Wright was seen as a loyalist and a supporter of the king's policies, and he played a role in several controversial cases, including the trial of the Seven Bishops.

After the Glorious Revolution of 1688, which saw James II deposed and replaced by William III and Mary II, Wright was arrested and imprisoned in the Tower of London on charges of high treason. While in the Tower, he contracted a fever and died on November 18, 1689.
